What is Dry Eye?
Dry eyes can be identified by a range of symptoms, from eye redness and itchiness to burning and blurry vision. Other common symptoms of this chronic condition include stringy discharge from the eyes, sensitivity to light, itchy eyes, and tired eyes. Dry eye symptoms like blurred vision are associated with MGD or meibomian gland dysfunction, which could be caused by blockages, autoimmune diseases or other external factors. It is a fairly common health condition especially if you live in areas with a dry climate or constantly use air conditioning, and luckily there are several treatment options available for it.
What Causes Dry Eye?
Dry eye is a chronic eye disease that can also be caused by activities like cigarette smoking, and exposure to wind and cigarette smoke. It can also be a result of deficiencies in essential vitamins such as vitamin A. Bacterial buildup under disposable lenses, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and a variety of factors that affect the eye’s oil production and its oil layer or aqueous layer can result in dry eye. In other words, dry eye is a multifactorial disease that can result from medical conditions as well as environmental factors.

Dry Eye Management + Treatments.
One of the number one eye-related symptoms that people have today is dryness, and because of the wide range of symptoms, we often don’t even recognize it as dryness. With all of the tasks we use our eyes for like computers, cell phones, and reading books, we allow our eyes to get dry. Dryness can make your eyes feel gritty, itchy, burning, blurry, and even watery! If your eyes feel any of these ways on a regular basis, you may have dry eye, and we have several ways to determine if you do. There are even different types of dry eyes, so after we assess your eyes, we can prescribe the best treatment to increase your comfort and minimize your symptoms.

Dry Eye Treatment FAQs
Does our dry eye treatment plan have complications or risks?
While our custom treatment plans for dry eye are very effective, there may be a few complications that can arise. These include:
+ Temporary blurred vision: In some cases, patients may experience temporary blurred vision immediately after the treatment. This is usually resolved in a few hours.
+ Light sensitivity: Some patients may experience increased sensitivity to light for a few days following the procedure.
None of these though should be persistent symptoms and they should resolve on their own, allowing you to carry on with daily life.
Who should consider dry eye treatments?
These treatments with high energy devices are particularly beneficial for those who experience persistent symptoms with traditional treatments like artificial tears or those who have an underlying condition affecting their lacrimal gland’s natural moisture production.
Is this procedure painful?
Our expert Ocular Hygienists will ensure that you are comfortable throughout the procedure.
How many treatments will I require?
The number of treatments required will depend upon the severity of your dry eyes. This is determined by a comprehensive eye exam, or a dry eye assessment conducted before the procedure is recommended.
