If you were to write out a “skin care wish list,” what would you put on it? Smoother? Firmer? More radiant-looking? Well then, microneedling may be the right path forward for you and is a skin treatment definitely worth considering.
There are also advanced options like Potenza RF Microneedling for skin-tightening. You may have heard of these terms and treatment but find yourself unsure of what each is meant for, if they could be viable options for your skin, or simply what is the difference?
It’s time to set the record straight and define these 2 treatment modalities and discuss the differences.
What Is Microneedling?
Traditional microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, uses ultra-fine needles to create tiny, controlled micro-injuries in the skin. While needling your face may seem scary or painful, these are small pin-pricks, rather than needles sized for injectables, and while some clients note discomfort, the treatment is often very well-tolerated, and manageable. The purpose of the treatment is to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, thereby promoting natural collagen and elastin production in the body, localized to where the needling is done.
Microneedling can be used to address a variety of common skin concerns, including:
- Reducing the appearance of acne and surgical scars
- Softening fine lines and wrinkles
- Improving uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation
- Minimizing enlarged pores and stretch marks
- Enhancing the absorption of topical serums
The result is smoother, more even-looking skin with improved texture and a refreshed, radiant appearance. If you face any of the above concerns when it comes to your skin, it could be time to reserve your complimentary consultation and VISIA 3D Skin Analysis Scan at BRIGHT Med Spa and explore whether microneedling can help.

What Makes Potenza RF Microneedling Different?
Potenza takes microneedling a step further by combining microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy.
This treatment works double time: while the ultra-fine needles create controlled “micro-injuries” to stimulate collagen production, Potenza simultaneously delivers RF energy into the deeper layers of the skin, which encourages skin tightening. This controlled energy helps support collagen remodelling. So, this treatment is an excellent option for those looking to improve both skin texture and firmness.
Potenza can target concerns including fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven texture, stretch marks and loss of skin elasticity.
The Procedure & Recovery
Before a microneedling or Potenza treatment, a topical numbing cream is typically applied 45–60 minutes beforehand to maximize comfort.
The actual micro-puncturing portion of the treatment generally takes approximately 10–30 minutes, depending on the treatment area and customized treatment plan.
Immediately afterward, your skin may look red and feel similar to a mild sunburn. Mild pinkness and sensitivity typically improve within 3–7 days, although individual recovery can vary.
For best results, a series of 3–6 treatments spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart is commonly recommended. Your practitioner will determine the ideal number and frequency of treatments based on your skin, concerns and goals.
At BRIGHT Med Spa, we provide 100% individualized treatment plans at the time of your consultation.
Microneedling or Potenza: Which Is Right for You?
Think of traditional microneedling as an excellent choice for skin resurfacing and improving texture, while Potenza RF Microneedling adds an additional skin-tightening component.
If your primary concerns are acne scarring, pores, fine lines, pigmentation or uneven texture, traditional microneedling may be a great fit. If you’re looking to address those concerns while also targeting loss of firmness and elasticity, Potenza may be the treatment to consider.
At BRIGHT Eye Spa + Medical Aesthetics, every treatment plan is customized to your skin and goals. A complimentary consultation and VISIA Skin Analysis can help our team determine which treatment is right for you.
